Inter-School Owl Painting Competition with theme “Environmental Damage: Threat to Owls”, was organized by ‘Friends of Nature’ in association with ‘World Owl Trust’ and ‘Global Owl Project’ on July 11, 2008 at NAFA art gallery, Naxal. The competition was organised with an aim of educating the students from different schools of Kathmandu valley about the importance of Owl to humans, which is regarded as a bad omen in most of the cultures around the world.
23 students participated from different schools and orphanages in this competition. The programme started with a presentation about the conservation status of birds in general and Owls in specific in Nepal. The participation of the students was found extremely encouraging.
The second session was the painting session. The participants were provided 2 hours each. The evaluation committee consisted of three members with two eminent artistes Mr. Kiran Manandhar and Mr. Ramesh Khanal and environmentalist Mr. Ram Lama. |

Friends of Nature (FON) has started to conduct various awareness programs in the schools of Kathmandu valley. Recently, in two Schools the program was continued
The program was initiated by Mr. Binod Ghimire, Coordinator, Conservation Education and Capacity Building . The need of environmental conservation to live in healthy environment was explained. The students were made known about the geo-physical structure and biodiversity of Nepal in brief.
Mr Surendra Gautam, Coordinator, Disaster and Public Health had followed the program giving introduction to the various components of environments explaining the types of environmental pollution brief. The program was ended with a show of a documentary video of Manang and Mustang districts of Nepal . |
