Research and development

Environmental concerns are comparatively new for Nepal . Diverse environmental situations and socioeconomic conditions are, probably, endemic here. Lack of planning and chaoticness are leading the environmental and developmental issues towards an unpredicted direction.

Since, environmental management and sustainable development are chief goals of FON, sufficient database and research results are the prime for taking strategic decisions at different conditions and situations. This type of research output and database are felt lacking in environmental sector in Nepal .

To fulfil the gap of research output and databases regarding environmental and developmental sectors, Friends of Nature aimed to give focus in this through its Research and Development Programme.

The main objectives of this programme are:

•  To prepare database regarding environmental conditions both in green and brown sector

•  To carry out research focusing wetland conservation, wildlife management, pollution assessment and prevention, landuse planning and forest resource

•  To carry research on Cleaner Production in industry and Life Cycle Assessment of product and production system

•  To prepare database on energy conservation and management

•  To coordinate other departments of FON regarding research in their focus area
