"ENVIRONEMENT IMPACT ASSESMENT AND LAND CHANGE THROUGH THE
CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSE IN KATHMANDU"

The capital and only metropolitan city of Nepal, Kathmandu, has evolved from lakebed to paddy agriculture to present day urban society.

The rapid pace of urbanization in Kathmandu today is greatly increasing the demand for shelter, infrastructure, employment opportunities and social services. More over, in addition to internal migration towards the city, as result, the housing stock in Kathmandu is facing increasing pressure.

Haphazard and substandard development in the metropolitan area is going on at rapid rate. All the activities carried out in urban areas, housing activities cover the maximum land use; as a result the agriculture land is decreasing day by day. Kathmandu valley is facing a number of serious environmental and ecological challenges.

Population is increasing day by day and the housing sector is also increased as the same ration to sustain that people which ultimately deteriorate the environment. Rate of solid waste generation, river water pollution, ground water pollution, degradation of agriculture land are the major issues of environmental impacts by the constructions of houses.

The study recommends the people, government and planning section to be conscious in making plan in the urban management and the constructions of house. It clarifies the environmental impacts by the constructions of house and encourages the people to take the decision for making house in appropriate manner.
