"CONFLICT IN COMMUNITY FOREST MANAGEMENT IN THE HILLS OF NEPAL"

Conflict is an integral part of human conditions and social processes. It differs in its scope and scale in society and society and conditions to conditions. Conflict in community forest comes in many steps of management process. This study is carried out on the basis of literature review; no field investigations have been carried out to verify the result.

The conflicts of community forest management are categorised in three major groups as Task conflict, Interpersonal conflict, and Procedural conflict. Unequal participation, improper distribution of resource, lack of trust among users, stakeholder exclusion, prohibition of traditional rights, scarcity of resources, differential participation like activities are contributing for the conflict. Conflicts help to improve the decisions and stimulate the involvement of community in decision making process; helps to increase the unity and strengthens the group behaviour, if resolution is done. If conflicts are not properly settled, it becomes harmful to the individual and group. It increases bitterness, alienation, and divisiveness among the members of group. It might violet the forest resources to the severe extent. Traditional and indigenous methodologies are devised to come over the issue of conflict. But exposures to the modern society, people overlook the traditional methodologies. However, dictation, motivation and decision of majority are used as conflict resolving methodologies.
