Common leopard survey

KMTNC/ACAP provided a small grant to Friends of Nature for the survey of Common (Forest) leopard in the Kaligandaki valley of Mustang district. Team including Raju Acharya, Yadav Ghimirey and Suresh Thapa successfully completed the survey which is probably the first systematic study of the species in Nepal . Detail report is in progress and will be uploaded in the web site soon.

 

Brief description of Common leopard survey

Study area: Kunjo VDC, Mustang district Nepal .
Transect survey: Eight transects were drawn and signs were recorded
Pugmark variation: Measurement of each pugmark was recorded.
Depredation survey: 152 house holds were surveyed to know the magnitude and amount of depredation done by leopard in the study area.
Discussion: Formal and informal discussions were made to know the perception of local people.
